Jennifer and Trevor's Wedding May 25, 1957

Kate's Note

The following letter was written by my grandfather, Jennifer's father, Alec Wilson Clark, to his younger children, Rosemary and John, both 18, who missed the wedding as they stayed in England. David mentioned in the letter is my Uncle David who was on a study abroad year in the USA. The letter was typed by Alec's long time secretary Muriel Hepworth hence the reference AWC/MH. The EMPRESS of ENGLAND is the boat Jennifer came over on with her mother. I hope you enjoy reading the letter, I certainly did. It brings you back to the time and some interesting references to the differences between England and North America at the time. -- Kate

Jennifer's Note

This is a letter my father wrote to John and Rosie about his trip to the USA and Canada in May 1957 and about his experiences at our wedding. He mentioned he had sent it to me but I never received it. I am forwarding it to you because I found it very interesting. It is seven pages long and a typewritten carbon copy so take your time! It has also relieved me of 62 years of guilt I had about leaving my parents in Dorval in that rather crummy motel after we left for our couple of days away! As you can see, they managed fine!! My father wrote very descriptively and it is a good window into life here in 1957.
